Genres and Length
Novelty Fiction Gazette is currently reviewing stories in multiple genres. We are primarily interested in works that combine originality of concept, a solid or sophisticated writing style, and a sound grasp of basic story elements (plot, characterization, setting, storyline etc.). Our editor has limited tolerance for basic technical errors that detract from the reading experience.
We will only consider short stories (1,000-7,500 words). We do not accept poems, essays, or fiction aimed at children.
Publication methods and royalties
At launch, any story will first be made for online reading here at Novelty Fiction Gazette. We may also offer to publish a story in digital format, individually and/or as part of an anthology.
Regardless of the method of distribution and the cost for the reader, the author will receive royalties as follows: Online publication: a one-time fee of $30; publication in digital format (where applicable): $0.50 per copy. Royalty statements are sent out semiannually (July and January), and royalties are paid annually (January).
Novelty Fiction uses short publication offers and simple acceptance via an online feedback form.
The author must grant Novelty Fiction a worldwide, exclusive license to publish the story online and in any digital format that may be applicable. The author retains copyright in their work. The publication agreement continues in perpetuity, until terminated by either party with 90 days prior notice.
How to submit and what to expect
Please contact our editor Morten Rand via our online feedback form to receive an email inviting you to submit your work. When submitting your manuscript to the email address provided in the invitation, please paste your story into the body of the email message or include it as a file attachment. In the email header, please write as follows: “Submission: (Title of your story).”
Our editor will respond within 4 weeks, letting you know whether we can offer to publish your story or not. We may make final acceptance conditional upon revisions to be carried out successfully by the author within a specified period of time. Editorial support, line editing and proofreading will be provided free of charge, as needed, prior to publication.
Our commitment does not end with publication. We are happy to nominate the works of our featured authors for contests and literary awards.
